As someone who is chronically too lazy to paint my toenails and with a mild phobia of feet, I am loathe to force them on any poor pedicurist. Thus summer sandals are not my friends, and peep toes? – positively enemies. This should make summer shoes a minefield, if it wasn’t for the gloriously understated espadrilles. Comfortable, toe-hiding, and undeniably summery, espadrilles are the understated heroes of summer.
I got these espadrilles from Shopbop at the beginning of the summer from the most glorious new brand, Soludos. I think they are probably the most complimented thing I’ve ever worn (take from this what you will), and although the ordering process was exceedingly complicated – it involved sending my dad on a recon mission through 3 villages after the departing UPS van, they are so, so worth it (though perhaps not to my long-suffering dad).
I have sadly now ruined mine through partying the night away due to their amazing comfort, and it was probably as sad as the death of a small pet (goldfish as opposed to dog – but sad none the less.)
I’ve now got my eye on the Burberry London Tasselled espadrilles which are currently sold out on Net-a-Porter, and I spend my days periodically refreshing the web-page.
Here is some of the prettiest (and at the moment sale-iest) espadrilles around.
Iris and Ink Madison leather-trimmed canvas espadrilles – £65 here.
Iris and Ink is a gorgeous but slightly pricey brand owned by The Outnet and have the dreamiest basics (their cream fedora is high on my Autumn wish list!) And these espadrilles are no exception. Minimalist but still packing a punch, these are dreamy espadrilles for silky palazzo pants or a beautiful patterned dress.
Soludos Lime and Coconut Sand Smoking Slipper – £51.45 here.
To be honest, you could take your pick of Soludos – everything is absolutely gorgeous. I particularly like the Lime and the Coconut espadrilles in sand. I love the idea of mismatched shoes and wearing mismatched shoes whilst singing ‘you put the lime with the coconut and mix it all up’ is just too tempting. A good a reason to buy as any.
New Look White Canvas Fray Trim Espadrilles – £9.99 here.
Tragically only left in sizes 8 and 9 (who’s surprised). Everything frayed is so fashionable right now, and these understated white espadrilles are the perfect accessory for any patterns, and would be the perfect paring-down to any dress for summer evenings.
Burberry London Tasseled Leather and Suede Espadrilles – £83 here.
Although I’m putting these on here,
no one else is allowed to buy the
m if they come back in stock in a 39. They are mine. The most stylish loafer/espadrille mashup to ever grace Net-a-Porter, and are currently sold out after being 50% off in the sale (which I was obviously late to). These are all of my summer goals, try and think of anything they wouldn’t look good with. No, I thought not..
Chloe leather-trimmed water snake espadrilles – £239.25 here.
And last but not least, the espadrilles to buy if you’ve recently won the lottery or just really REALLY like espadrilles. These Chloe python stripe espadrilles are absolutely stunning. I love the idea of wearing them with a girly broderie-anglaise dress, or a beautiful bardot dress for summer evenings with a (large) glass (bottle) of rosé.
Hope you enjoy, lots of love x
